This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been an ELL teacher, in Chelsea, for twelve years. I have the pleasure of working with a very diverse student population.

My students are hardworking and resilient adolescents.

I am always learning from them and their rich culture. They make me grow as a person and help me become a better human being.

Every year, I have many Slife students, they need a lot of support and scaffolding in order to learn and be successful in school. Teaching remotely has been very challenging for these students. They need to manage to learn not only the English language but also the American culture, in a short period of time. Despite all the difficulties and challenges my students are always happy and eager to learn the difficult English language.

I am always very proud of them and I can't see myself doing anything else in life other than working with this amazing students. My goal is to help my students to be successful in life, reach their goals, and achieve their dreams.

My Project

Slife stands for students with limited and interrupted formal education. According to DeCapua's book Meeting the Needs of Slife, The "I" stands for schooling that was interrupted due to war, natural disaster, migration, lack of educational facilities or lack of financial resources. They are a subpopulation of ELs that require additional instruction and socio-emotional supports. They also struggle with technology and need extra time to complete their activities and extra visual aids. A white board, at home, will help me write down their questions and doubts in order to explain them better to my students. This way, I do not have to add extras slides to the already created slides, to answer to their questions. It'll also serve as an organizational tool to group students, to take notes, to brainstorm their ideas, and even to write our goals for the day.
