My students need the interactive whiteboard experience in our classroom, for math and science.

My Students
I teach 34 5th grade students math on a daily basis, with only 17 of those in my homeroom class. My students are a good mix of African American, Hispanic, Caucasian, and Native American. They come from single parent household, split custody, grandparent custody, foster homes, and traditional home environments. Their families socioeconomic status also varies from working middle class, working poor, to utter poverty. With all of these variations of students, its also not too surprising that their educational level varies as well.
My Project
Our classroom is not equipped with current technology. We would love to move into the 21st century with a form of an interactive whiteboard. However with the costs and installation of those it is just not feasible. Thank goodness for the Ebeam edge technology. Ebeam Edge turns any dry erase board into an interactive whiteboard. In 2009 Educational Leadership conducted a study which indicated that utilizing an interactive whiteboard increased student achievement by 16%! The same study indicated that using Google, graphs, and charts led to a 26% gain in student achievement.
Research also shows that students learn more when they are fully engaged with multisensory, hands on learning.
The interactive whiteboard could provide this to my class. It could be used in a variety of ways including: as a multi-media presentation, to collaborate on problem-solving, and showcasing student work, projects and virtual classroom activities.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
