Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from diverse backgrounds and home lives. It sometimes affects them socially and emotionally. They mostly come from financially challenging homes. Some come to school hungry and rely on school meals for nourishment. Many of my students need to feel I am there for them which is something I strive to provide for them.
My Project
In 2nd Grade, we have a Dragon Mascot named Gus for phonics and reading. Due to COVID-19 and having to do distance learning, my students do not get to see Gus interact with them.
I would like them to physically hold and read with Gus at home.
They deserve to have a reading partner like they would at school. Some students don't have anyone they can talk to or read to and having their own Gus the dragon would be great!
I will share my Gus with them virtually, but to have their own Gus they can hold would be even better. This will help with their social emotional well being.
