My students need versions of Shakespeare's plays that they can comprehend to appreciate this amazing storyteller.

My Students

Every year we work hard to fundraise and see one of Shakespeare's plays. The plays are difficult for fourth graders to understand and although currently I am able to teach one play a year, I would like to expand my students' familiarity with his other works and who he was as a playwright.

My students are excited to learn and love to create!

They are writing scripts, composing songs, and conducting science experiments. Now I would like to provide more time to teaching them about Shakespeare. They attend a small, urban school where the concept of community is infused in everything that they do. They work together, mentor younger students, attend garden days, compost lunches, run on Fridays, sing in musicals, and care about their school environment as a team. They would feel empowered to know more of Shakespeare's works.

My Project

My students will use these books as a resource to become familiar with Shakespeare's life and his other works. We currently learn one play extensively, yes in fourth grade! I would like to provide materials to my students that will motivate them to become familiar with his other works and his life. These books are comprehensible with the pictorial aides and make the plays easier to understand independently. What child wouldn't want to pick up a graphic novel to look at no matter what the title?

These books will be used to expose my students to Shakespeare's other works and his life.

They will be able to become familiar with 7 other plays. They will visually see how a complicated text can be made simpler as they are asked to explain science and social studies concepts in class. These books will open the doors for my students to learn very complicated works of literature. They will be empowered!
