My Students
I work in a low income area where a lot of my students do not have books at home. Often the only time they are read to is when they are at school. My students really love to read and they get excited every time I introduce a new book. They love reading so much if we miss story time they are quick to ask me when we will be having our daily read aloud.
They seek adventure and know a book offers doors to worlds we only dream of.
My students are really eager for knowledge and using their schema to think about the books they read. They love to make predictions about a story or compare/contrast books that are similar. They really love learning new vocabulary and being able to use it in their conversations.
My Project
This year I have helped develop a love for reading in my students. Every morning when we go to the carpet their faces light up and they are anxious to see what book we will be reading and the adventure it will take us on. They love our story time so much they tell their friends and family about the stories we have read. Reading is such an important part of our day that I would love to have more books for them to dive into. They love to compare different versions of the same story, write about their favorite book, and draw the pictures they see in their minds.

These books will help my students grow as readers. We use books to read a story every morning together, books for our guided reading time, and we build our independent reading during self selected reading. Having these books would really benefit my students who often only get the chance to read while we are at school.
