When you teach elementary school like I do, you learn very quickly that in order to engage young children in learning, you need to make even the simplest of things FUN!
I teach at a small, diverse school in Washington state.
My school is classified as a high-poverty school, with many students on the free or reduced-price lunch program. My classroom of students is always made up of a wide variety of abilities, interests, and challenges. From learning support students, to English language learners, to gifted students, I am here to teach them all and give them the best education!
My Project
In my never-ending quest to make my classroom a place where my students WANT to be, I am requesting fun and exciting markers and paper from the Quill company. "Fun and exciting markers and paper????" you ask? Well, yes. :-) The paper I am requesting comes in different vibrant colors, and the markers I am requesting do as well. With these markers and paper, my students will be able to make charts, posters, graphs, and more in all subject areas from reading, to math, to science, to social studies! And if you are wondering if something as simple as brightly colored paper and markers can make students more engaged in their learning, I can tell you from my years of experience that the answer is YES!
This is a simple project, but it is one that I know will make a difference in the lives of my students.
If they are having fun with their learning, the benefits -- eagerness to learn, the desire to do well, becoming a life-long learner, etc. -- will be too numerous to count! Thank you for caring about my students and their education!
