I have the most amazing students in the world. They come with their own unique personalities and talents and they make teaching a joy every single day. They are fighters and they inspire me daily to be a better teacher and a better person.
My students have very specific challenges that they face every single day with fire and passion to succeed.
They range from intellectual disabilities to autism. They have many unique needs that range from sensory deficits to difficulties with social skills. The goal of my classroom is to not only give my students the academics they need to be successful, the life skills to become members of society and the tools needed to understand and manage their individual needs!
My Project
My students come from many walks of life with a variety of challenges. The things that we take for granted, such as reading social cues, calming down when we get mad or just simply being able to carry on a conversation is difficult.
It is not enough to tell them what to do, they need something tangible that they can put in their hand and see with their own eyes.
This social, emotional and behavioral skills library will give them exactly that. It will allow them to learn the right and wrong ways to interact in a safe environment without having to learn it the hard way in the real world.
All children through this pandemic have suffered from loss of academic knowledge, lack of socialization and just not being able to interact in the world. However, my students have suffered this times 1000. However, in the midst of all the obstacles, they have persevered! This project will help fill in those losses and allow them to bridge the gap that the pandemic has caused.
