My Project
Each time my kindergarteners come to the rug, we always sing the “We are gathering” song: “Everyone is here now, finding their own space now, let’s begin!” The only problem is that most spaces on our rug are stained, worn, or discolored from years and years of use. It’s past time for a new one.
Our rug is the heart of our classroom, the place where we come together to sing, learn, and grow as a classroom family.
A new classroom rug will allow students to truly find their own space without having to worry about how “yucky” it is. I want my kindergartners to know that they are important and that every single one of them deserves to have a clean and cozy spot just for them!
I also want to give my students different floor seating options to allow them to have more choice in how and where they sit. With your help, I hope to let them choose from wiggle cushions, wooden stools, or fluffy seating pads so they can decide what their body needs in that moment. This small opportunity for choice helps kindergartners develop confidence and independence, and it demonstrates respect for their unique developmental needs.
