My students need these chromebooks and a place to have them set up in the library so that they can have easy access to our library collection and the other catalog features.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every student in grades one through five comes through my library each week. They are so excited to look at the books and often have a clear idea of what they want to read that week. Most of them have limited other exposure to reading choices.
Ninety-six percent of my students receive free or reduced price lunch, and more than 90% are English language learners and they love the library!
Many families do not drive, and the nearest public library is several miles away. The resources in this small, elementary school library are all that most of them get. And they really need the resources -- most of them struggle with reading, and test well behind their more affluent peers.
So they are very enthusiastic library patrons. Sometimes they want a book about their favorite soccer player, or about training their pet budgie. Other times they look for books to support an academic project, or simply the next in their favorite graphic novel series. It is my privilege and pleasure to see their excitement, to try to get them what they want to read -- and possibly expand their interests a bit.
My Project
I want my students to be able to find "the new Captain Underpants " or "a book about snakes" on their own. As it is, they rely entirely on me to look up the name of an author, or find out if the book they want has been checked out or is just sitting on the shelving cart.
With two dedicate, wifi enabled chromebooks, and stands to put them on, students can learn the same catalog search techniques that they will use in college, as well as put books on hold, write reviews and see if books are checked out.
Having the computers on stands will save table space and let them be set up like kiosks in "real" libraries.
