Have you ever watched The Tonight Show with Jay Leno when he does the segment geography segment? While humorous, it highlights how many adults can not answer the simplest of geography questions. One of my goals as a teacher is to never see my students on this segment!
My students are a dynamic group of kids that come from a variety of backgrounds.
My classroom is comprised of general education, special education and English language learning students. They LOVE to learn and their love of learning is infectious! They inspire me to constantly look for new and exciting ways to help them.
My Project
As spectacular second graders, my students are just starting to understand the world outside of our little town. This year they will be expected to learn the seven continents and the names of all the oceans. I feel like this rug will be the perfect tool because it will be part of our everyday classroom environment. They will be able to find a place on the rug and then use other resources to look up information. We will be able to identify different areas of the world by who is sitting there. I think this is will be an amazing motivator and visual reminder.
My students crave knowledge and resources to learn all they can.
This great rug will serve as a great meeting place and an amazing resource for learning world geography. It will serve as a constant, visible, resource that students will interact with daily.
