Help me give my students supplies to explore the science behind successful agriculture.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Fields's classroom raised $414
This project is fully funded
My Project
What conditions are best to grow corn? Our students study civilizations from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. One foundation of a strong civilization is their food supply.
With this project, students will grow corn plants and compare how different soils affect plant growth.
They will compare soil from our own local river to samples of different soil types. They will notice differences both visually and chemically.
Then students will make predictions about the success of their plant growth based on the characteristics of their soil. Then we start asking questions about which crops will grow well in different historic environments. They will compare the growth patterns among different seed types and look at the corn samples both with handling sample and examining them microscopically. We study corn growth in Mesoamerica and the impact of it with the Columbian Exchange to Europe. Would corn also grow well in Europe, Asia and Africa?
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
