My students are energetic 5 year olds who are learning to be part of a community. They are curious about the world around them and love to engage in activities that help them to explore and develop their abilities. Every day is an adventure in kindergarten as they work together.
I love the growth that I see in my students on a daily basis!
It is amazing to watch them learn how to read, write and do math. However my favorite thing is to support them as they learn to be readers. They are so excited when they realize what they can do! I love to read to and with them, sharing many different kinds of books.
Our school is in a high poverty area, with all students receiving free lunch. Families work hard and want the best for their children. They also live to see the progress that their children make.
My Project
The recent pandemic has changed how we can meet our students’ needs in the classroom. Gone are the days when children could share a set of supplies located in the middle of their tables. We need a way for children to access materials while keeping them safe, minimizing physical contact between children.
Having a special place for each child to keep their materials gets them excited about organizing what they need.
Young children want to be able to access what they need independently. Giving each child a chair pocket allows them to keep their supplies close at hand. This also saves time when they can reach behind them and get what they need for the lesson.
