This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students want to read more. But having to continually go to different spots in the room to get a new book, their reading folder, response notebook, pencil, etc. is taking up a chunk of their time that could better be spent reading.
I teach a dynamic group of 5th graders who come to school each day to build a better future for themselves.
Over 90% of the students in our Title 1 school receive free or reduced lunch, and over 25% of them are English language learners. Our school strives to have a "No Excuses" attitude when it comes to preparing our students for successful futures. We utilize technology throughout instruction, and incorporate character education and college readiness in all we do. My students are destined for success, and I will do whatever it takes to prepare them for that.
My Project
Having individual book boxes for each student will allow them to have all of their reading materials in one place. They will be able to get their book box and be ready to focus on independent reading time.
Wild readers have plans for future reading. Individual book boxes will allow students to have the next book they plan to read ready to go and will lessen time wasted wandering through the class library.
Having sturdy book boxes for each student will help maximize our reading time and allow things to run more smoothly in the classroom.
I am a firm believer that the most effective classrooms have systems in place for everything, and these boxes will provide us an efficient system for our independent reading time...a key part of our day!
