My Students
I love to read. I still remember (and in some cases have) tons of books I read as a child. I want to help my students create their own libraries of books that they will remember and have for a lifetime.
My students come from an economically challenged area of a major city.
About 90% of them live below the poverty line. Our school has a fully funded breakfast and lunch program. Despite their disadvantages, my students are hard workers and eager to learn.
My Project
Everyday after lunch I do a read aloud for my students. It gives them a chance to calm down after lunch and recess. It also gives them a chance to hear a great story. The students love our read aloud time. They love it even more when they are able to read along with me.
With your generosity my students will be able to enjoy an amazing read aloud, "Chocolate Fever", and get the extra practice of following along in their very own copy of the book.
After we finish reading the book together in school. They will be able to take it home to read again and again. You have the power to make my class very happy.
