Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of 25 fun and energetic 4th and 5th graders. My students range from a variety of learning, behavioral, and emotional abilities. They attend a public school in a high-need community on the northwest side of Chicago.
About 70% of the students attending our school are from low-income backgrounds.
Although my students face challenges both inside and outside the classroom, they love to learn! One of the activities that continue to be very popular in the classroom during indoor recess is coloring. Please help me provide my students with coloring books that they can use during their recess inside the class.
My Project
No matter how old my students get, some of them still love coloring. There's no need for me to drag out all the art supplies for students to enjoy themselves. Coloring books are a great way to keep their cold winter days busy during indoor recess. Coloring allows my students to relax and soothe the winter blues when they cannot go outside. Coloring helps my students to not only express their own creativity, but it also allows them an outlet to relieve stress. I have chosen books full of popular images for all genders, including cars, animals, superheroes, Disney characters, video games, and other cartoons.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
