My Project

Our STEM students would greatly benefit from reading The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies as it offers a creative and engaging way to blend literacy with real-world applications in science, technology, engineering, and math. This story of sibling rivalry and entrepreneurship provides the perfect platform to introduce key STEM concepts such as financial literacy, data analysis, measurement, and the scientific method. Through literature circles, students will strengthen reading comprehension, collaboration, and critical thinking skills while exploring how science and business intersect in everyday life. The book naturally lends itself to hands-on learning as students apply STEM skills to plan, design, and run their own mock lemonade businesses, using scientific experiments to enhance their product and marketing strategies.

Reading novels in school is important because it helps students build critical thinking, empathy, and comprehension skills while exposing them to diverse perspectives and experiences- Novels also enhance vocabulary, spark imagination, and provide meaningful opportunities for discussion, analysis, and personal connection to the world around them.

STEM Class Goals:

Integrate literacy and STEM learning by engaging students in literature circles that foster meaningful discussion and connections between characters’ decisions and real-life STEM concepts.

Apply scientific methods to test and improve lemonade recipes, experiment with variables like temperature and ingredients, and record data to make informed decisions.

Complete a culminating STEM business project where student teams design and launch a mock lemonade stand, incorporating budgeting, advertising, engineering design, and scientific testing to present a final product to the school community.

My students are wonderful and they are ready to start a WAR- The Lemonade War.
