This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students at our school are unlike any students you have ever met. Our students have so much personality and love for school. Despite these students' backgrounds and living situations they manage to come to school and succeed. These students are predominately Hispanic and most come from lower-income families. Our school is a Title I school that receives some support from the surrounding community. The community itself is very close and strives to do a lot of the students' needs.
The students at our school are simply the best!
They have so much pride in their community and their school and we want to be able to support them in all the areas of their life while they are at school.
My Project
Many of my students come from very poverty-stricken homes. They come to school with many needs. The most important need is their social-emotional and basic needs (food, clothes, etc.). As a teacher, I feel responsible for supporting them on all of these levels. This means realizing we have a very late lunch, and many of my kids NEED snacks but cannot bring them to school.
To support my students learning, I have to understand their needs!
These snacks will allow me to provide the essentials and take the pressure of not knowing if a snack is being provided for the day or not off the table.
