My Students
Who says that art and science can'Ât come together? I work with second grade classes that are learning about earth materials. While learning about the different properties of clay, I want them to have the experience of making different objects. They would use self-hardening clay to make clay beads.can't
I teach science in a school in Brooklyn with a 59% poverty rate.
My students need more materials to enrich their scientific inquiries. They are wonderful, young scientists in the making who need more tools with which to learn. My students are full of questions, love to experiment, observe, and learn more about the world through science.
My Project
Because I believe that the best way for students to learn is to observe, experiment, and pose questions, I want to get materials that they can manipulate. There is nothing like being able to work with clay to understand what wonderful materials the earth provides us with. Because I work with several classes of students, I need large quantities of clay in order for everyone to get a chance to create something.
I am requesting 2 packs of pottery clay and 3 packs of Marblex compounds for my students to use to create various objects.
Having materials for hands-on projects is important in order to teach children how to observe, interpret, and analyze data, make decisions, and infer by drawing conclusions.
These are essential skills that I want my students to develop in my class. By donating these materials to my classroom, you are helping me foster my students'Â love for inquiry and science.
