I am a school-based PreK physical therapist and work with students who are 2 to 5 years old and receive physical therapy.
Pre-K is a crucial time in gross motor development.
The student's that will benefit from this are receiving PT because they're behind their peers in their motor skills, which impact their participation in school.
My Project
Tricycles and scooters are just kids' toys to some, but to a physical therapist, they are incredible tools.
I am assigned to students in several schools, so part of my job is to travel to schools that have very little equipment, and I can only use what I can carry with me.
This folding tricycle and the folding scooter would be a great addition to my traveling supplies, especially since the schools I travel to are often lacking in equipment.
A tricycle is a great way for a kid to get around, but it's also a fantastic way to learn how to use both legs reciprocally, to work on coordinating movement between the left and right sides, and to encourage a weaker side to get stronger. Steering a tricycle helps develop spatial skill awareness.
Pushing a scooter works on a single-leg stance, standing balance, and strengthening a weaker side when you make them use their non-preferred side. It also is incredibly fun.
