"Help us become engaged in our learning!" Curiosity abounds at our school and our students have the opportunity to tap into it with the help of technology throughout most of their day. There are a few classrooms that need an update. Mine is one of them.
My students attend an IB school in the heart of a city in Colorado.
There are children who have information at their fingertips whenever they would like a question answered and those who don't know where their next meal will come from. The beauty of our school is that you'd never know the difference if you walked in and saw the collaboration between peers of like grade levels and across the school. I am an intervention teacher who teaches students who need extra help in reading and math, as well as students who are excelling in math.
My Project
As an intervention teacher, my students take computer based assessments to monitor progress. They are not always able to get into the computer lab to take these assessments. Having two more computers in my room would allow more time to teach during the hour that I have them. The document camera would put technology at their fingertips in a different way. They wouldn't have to gather around one of the computers in the classroom to analyze their data and set goals for themselves or the group. With this camera, we could have meaningful discussions about where they are, where they need to be, and how to get there. We could also use the computers and document camera to support the Units of Inquiry they are studying in their classrooms. If they have a question, we could all find the answer right there and then.
The impact that these donations would have on my classroom and the students I teach would be immense.
This technology would take the students' learning and my teaching to the next level. My students would also feel like they are valued and can be more successful during the hour they are with me each day.
