This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I believe children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." These are not only words from a popular song, but a strong belief that I hold as a teacher.
Equity for all!
My students are full of potential. They are bright shining beacons of light. I am asking for assistance so that they can glow like the stars that they are.
Fortunately, for the students in my class, envisioning the future is something we think of and talk about often. Because their daily existence is so challenging, I have them focus on their bright and delightful futures!
I teach in a low socio-economic area at a Title One school where ninety-nine percent of the population receives free breakfast and lunch at school. On most days, the heartiest and healthiest meals that the students receive are what they eat at school. It isn't unusual for the students in my class to stockpile food in their book bags to take home in order to have something to eat later that day.
Despite the harsh circumstances and backdrops of their lives, the students come to school daily with smiles on their faces.
My Project
My students need access to vocabulary that they can easily speak, recognize, spell, read and write. Sight words are an important part of an early childhood education!
Due to the pandemic, my students have had limited interactions with their peers.
These Sight Word flashcards will help my students learn how to speak, read, write, spell, and communicate with their parents, classmates and teachers.
These words will give my firsties the tools that they so desperately need to express themselves. It will be the start of their social and emotional development.
