My Students

What's the word, Hummingbird? . . What's the tale Nightingale? No matter what bird you choose, there is one key element to reading success. Sight word recognition is that key to becoming an effective reader. When emergent readers recognize sight words quickly, their reading fluency increases.

I am an enthusiastic, energetic first grade teacher who is always looking for ways to improve my teaching so that I can have a greater impact on my students' learning outcomes.

I teach in the "Heart of Cajun Country" where our love for life can only be surpassed by our love for good food! I teach at a school where we have a diverse population of students. Our school is a "host school" for students who reside at local shelters in our community. My school community is made up of dedicated workers who have only the students' best interest at heart . . and that is to prepare them to be life-long learners.

My Project

With the materials that are being requested, I can provide a multitude of engaging activities for my first graders to practice their basic sight words. The resources can be used independently in work stations or with whole group activities. They will allow my students to practice their sight word recognition in a fun and meaningful so that they can be more fluent when reading.

By funding this proposal, you will provide my first graders with the support they need in order to become effective readers.

In first grade, we want our students to not just know how to read but to become a READER! We all can attest to the fact that when we are good at something, we do it a lot!!
