it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It is said that creativity is the highest form of intelligence. If that is true, why does my school district keep cutting the art budget?
Our school is in a high-poverty, high-crime neighborhood, where 100% of our students receives free breakfast and lunch everyday.
School supplies are sparse but we make do, because at the end of the day kids are kids and they just want to learn, and have fun doing it.
My Project
My art students need art supplies, including pencils and erasers, and to keep our pencils in tip-top shape, we need a sharpener. Art is a great way to brighten a child's day, to help them be inspired and want to come to school. But without enough basic supplies for everyone, it becomes increasingly difficult to foster creativity. Pencils and erasers are such simple tools with which you can do so many great projects. We can do leaf rubbings, landscape sketches, contour drawings and portraits, amongst an array of projects, by just using a pencil ... if only we had enough.
By funding this art project for basic pencils, erasers and a sharpener, you can help 650 urban students embrace their creative sides, and through art, be able to find the beauty and fun that should surround all kids.
