This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"I believe children are the future. Teach them well and let them lead the way." These are not only words from a popular song but a strong belief that I hold as a teacher.
Equity for all!
My students are full of potential. They are bright shining beacons of light. I am asking for assistance so that they can glow like the stars that they are.
Fortunately, for the students in my class, envisioning the future is something we think of and talk about often. Because their daily existence is so challenging, I have them focus on their bright and delightful futures!
I teach in a low socio-economic area at a Title I school where 99% of the population receives free breakfast and lunch at school. On most days the heartiest and healthiest meals that the students receive are what they eat at school. It isn't unusual for the students in my class to stockpile food in their book bags to take home in order to have something to eat later that day.
Despite the harsh circumstances and backdrops of their lives, the students come to school daily with smiles on their faces.
My Project
My students are in the beginning stages of their learning development. As first grade scholars, the pencil is the single most important tool that my youngsters use in class everyday.
My students need quality pencils, that DO NOT BREAK every five seconds!
It is so heartbreaking to watch these children's pencils break, in the middle of expressing themselves. Their momentum breaks, just as the pencil did.
Kids will lose their thoughts or forget their answers, if they are constantly having to stop due to an inferior pencil point breaking. As a school, we have had severe budget cuts due to the current pandemic. I try to buy pencils for my classroom from the .99 cent store, however the quality is very inferior.
I am so lucky to have my students in person everyday. However, I need your help to get these little boys and girls the correct resources to stimulate their learning. Pencils are used from the start to the end of our school day. We need good pencils. Please help!
