My students need student magazines to support literacy, social studies, and science.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Poetker's classroom raised $198

My Students
My students come from a very diverse neighborhood. Many of my students are from low-income homes and do not have access to books or different literary mediums. My first graders are in their prime developmental stages and are very greedy for new learning materials. Our school does not have updated technology so they are always eager for more opportunities to interact with technology. I also have a lot of students who speak another language at home. My students are very hard working and are in love with books.
My Project
These magazines are themed monthly where students are able to further expand their learning and practice their reading at the same time. These magazines also have an online version that reads the magazine aloud which is great for English language learners to follow along with. There are also extended activities where students are able to practice skills related to first grade. There are also videos and games that relate to each magazine to further students learning and make them more engaging. Students can do this whole group or one on one and the magazines go home so that students can share them with their family and read them as many times as they can.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
