This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school has not had a music program in a few years, for most of my students this is their first time taking music. Despite this many students have risen to the challenge of helping build the music program.
On a daily bases, I am continually amazed at the amount of dedication and passion my students show for their music classes.
Music has brought a sense of belonging and fellowship to the students at my school. As the program begins to grow, I hope to engage more of the student population in any ways I can.
My Project
In the past two years, under my direction, the Marching Band program has nearly doubled in size, along with the formation of an award winning Jazz Ensemble. However as we enter our third year of operation we face new challenges, new challenges both I and my students are ready to face head on. With the number of mouth pieces as a limitation I cannot continues to add additional member to each ensemble, thus halting our growth.
Between Jazz Band, Beginning Band, Jazz Combo band and Marching Band it is extremely important that each student has their own mouth piece.
The increased number of band students this year has taken its toll on our equipment. Nearly all of our mouth pieces have been at the school since its opening in 2008. I find it extremely important to replace as many of the older mouth pieces as we can, to keep a hygienic band program.
