My Students
"What was my time? I think I ran a personal best!" As a coach, I hear this question more than any other. During every cross country season, runners set both individual and team goals. My goal as the head coach is to build great students that chose to add cross country to their education.
By learning to set goals on the course, we also learn to set and achieve goals in life!
My athletes are 7th and 8th graders from many diverse backgrounds. Some come to us in best running apparel money can buy and others are in need of socks, shoes, and a bottle of water to carry for hydration. Regardless of their background or the money they have, all are eager to set a goal, work hard to meet it, and celebrate when those goals have been met.
My Project
Student athletes from around the four-states area will be able to see the large numbers displayed on the clock over various parts of the cross country course. This will help runners to learn about the importance of pacing and running negative splits while improving their overall course times.
While competition varies from course to course, the clock remains constant.
By utilizing the large display, athletes will learn to see the clock as an advantage and not an adversary.
The clock will not only aid athletes, but will also be beneficial to coaches, parents, and the media. If a picture speaks 1,000 words, 200 of those words will come from the time displayed next to a victorious winner's face.
