My students need treasure box items and raffle tickets to motivate learning.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Duncan's classroom raised $194

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach children in a low-income and high poverty neighborhood in the inner city of Los Angeles. At this Title I school, 100% of my students receive free and reduced price lunch.
Though their economic standing has them encountering many challenges, struggling to receive an exemplary education will not be one of them, as far as I am concerned.
My hope is to provide my students with the highest expectations so that they can succeed in their lives, education, and careers. To help me do that, I need resources that these student may not have readily available.
My Project
I want to give my students access to treasure box items in my classroom to reward desired classroom behavior. If funded, students who exhibit desired behavior and scholarly traits will be able to choose from a plethora of fun objects for their enjoyment. These treasure box items are positive reinforcement, and I want to use them to motivate my students in the classroom.
Some may argue that students shouldn't receive rewards to do what is expected of them, and motivation to learn and follow the rules should be intrinsic, but I disagree.
Positive reinforcement occurs naturally in everyone’s daily lives from infants to the oldest adult. For example, when people obey traffic laws and don’t get a ticket, they are rewarded by not having to take the driver’s test when their license is due. People go to work every day, show up on time, work hard and are rewarded by a paycheck. A person who is kind to others is rewarded by kindness offered back to them. The list could go on and on. All of these “rewards” increase the chance that people will continue to engage these positive behaviors. Just like these treasure box items will increase the chance that my student will continue to be motivated to learn, and exhibit positive behavior and scholarly traits.
Some of the items included are light up toys, puzzles, rings, and much more!
