This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a high poverty area. They have many obstacles to overcome before they even get to school. Many are ESL newcomers who are adjusting to a new environment. Some are home alone while their parents are working. They may be living with grandparents or in foster care because of situations they have no control over. Several are ADD, ADHD, or Autistic.

Incredibly, they mostly come with a heart full of love and a desire to learn.

My Project

The magazine subscriptions I'm requesting will allow my students to interact with colorful and engaging print while continuing to build their reading skills. Students will use text and graphic features to help them comprehend what they are reading. Magazines are perfect for encouraging reluctant readers to find something they are interested in.

As students become excited about learning new information about the world, they will share and discuss what they read with classmates.

This added communication will help students improve both their listening and speaking skills. Improving their communication skills will help them across all facets of their life.
