Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When I got my library card, that was when my life began.
-Rita Mae Brown. Unfortunately many of my students lack the transportation to visit the local libraries. We are given the job of bringing that passion for reading and the adventure of books to them.
My students are a combination of Gifted and Talented and ESL students.
They come from an economically disadvantaged area, but it has not brought down their motivation to learn in any way. Many of them just adore reading; they will sit and look at book after book.
I really want to help take their skills to the next level this year. It's such an important grade in the development of comprehension and fluency-I need to give them tools to help improve their skills. Many are already reading, but could be reading so much better! I want them to be the most successful 1st Graders ever!
My Project
Every day my students work with me in small groups and in reading workstations with their peers. With these resources, you would be giving them hands-on opportunities to discover those reading skills. They love to play games and retell stories with puppets, it makes reading fun and exciting for them.
With better reading skills, they will have a foundation in all subjects. Even math depends so much on being able to read and understand the problems. You would be enriching the school experience for these kids so much!
With the status of the economy, schools budgets are getting smaller and smaller.
I cannot afford to get these materials personally because I've already spent so much on my kiddos. Your donation would make such a difference for these students. They are incredibly grateful for any new resources and are very responsible in taking care of them. Thank you for considering our proposal!
