Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Ten and eleven year old students are the most fun to teach. They have enough experience with life to know how things work, but now they want to know the hows and the whys of science.
My 5th grade students need to see it to believe it.
How can they possibly take my word for it that salt doesn't disappear when it dissolves in water? Students can use the kitchen scales to find the answer to this and many other questions. They can add a known mass of salt to a known mass of water and see that when the salt dissolves in the water, the mass is still there.
The dry erase boards will allow students to record data when answering the question, “Does the mass of water change from solid form to liquid form?” By recording the mass of an ice cube and the mass of the liquid water, students will be able to see for themselves.
These materials will help answer questions for years to come!
