My Students

I teach at a school where over 80% of our students come from low-income families and receive free or reduced-price lunches. Approximately 45% are African American, 45% are Hispanic, and 20% are English language learners. They come from very diverse households.

Our students want to learn and do well, even when the statistics are not in their favor.

We, as a school, want to provide an environment where our students want to come and learn with us.

My Project

Many of my students do not have the ability to go to the local library and our school library is the only source for them to get books to read for pleasure. With COVID restrictions, students are not able to go to the school library as often as some would like. Having access to books is key in developing vocabulary and overall literacy development.

I want to create a classroom library in my math classroom so students will have access to books at all times.

The books in this project are some of the titles my students have expressed interest in reading. Some are even my personal favorites.

I have also added a professional development book to the list. I am always continuing my search and learning about ways to further my skills in helping my students better learn math. The text I have chosen will help me in better assisting my students.
