My students need opportunities to be creative with language, rhythms, and rhyme in their early levels of literacy with music and these three student ukuleles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kindergarten students are naturally curious and almost always happy and excited about whatever we have planned for the day.
My students are budding scientists, writers, programmers, musicians and designers.
They are great problem solvers and enjoy assisisting others in their endeavors. My students are learning their second language of English while developing many other skills and concepts.
They always impress me with their fearless attitudes and perseverence. These are my students and I want to continue to engourage and assist them in their learning!
My Project
We have three student ukeleles in the class now and my students are learning to share. They strum to the beat and sing songs created in whole group shared song writing or on the spot writing from their own imaginations. They are creating. They are writing. When we begin to perform our creations or have trouble getting everyone Uke time in a day, it would be awesome to have a few more.
I was fortunate to attend a training to guide students through this creative process with simple strumming and open tuning.
They get to hear harmony and melody in each other's creations without having to know difficult chords. More instruments in more students' hands is a wonderful gift that you can give.
