This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are special because they have an enormous amount of potential to beat the norms that are expected of them coming from South Los Angeles. These students are funny, risk takers, open-minded, street smart, and desire to be successful. Many of my students are English learners who come from families that have immigrated to this great country to better themselves and make sacrifices for the sake of their children's education. The neighborhood they live in is of lower SES, in which most people support their families as blue collar workers. Despite their struggles, our families believe in our school and support their student by assuring their great attendance, attending school events, and working along side teachers.
Being apart of an IB (International Baccalaureate) school, my students are growing as global students and will need all resources available without any constraints of being apart of a fast-pace society.
Our wonderful charter school includes an international education that develop the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.
My Project
It's that time of the year-literally, for students to learn the concepts for telling time. In my third grade class, we will begin the foundational basics for learning to tell time to the hour, half hour, quarter to, quarter past, and to the minute.
Telling time can be challenging for our young scholars but with the help of individual clocks, students can manipulate a relatively real life clock to make it easier and fun.
I aspire to utilize the individual clocks to support student learning and teach them the long life skill of telling time. Not only is telling time a California standard that is highly tested, but it is a skill that students absolutely need to master at an early age.
On another note, state testing is soon approaching. To prepare our students, testing dividers are a great way to help students concentrate and focus on doing their very best. These dividers are great for test prep and also for our state test.
Overall, my third grade students will be thrilled to manipulate and play with the concept of time. The individual clocks would really ease the student's transition into telling time. The test dividers would also support student learning by providing a focused environment. Thank you for your time and investment into our student's future.
