This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Books are something that definitely evolve with the times. Books become outdated with the quality and also with the content. In addition, books that reach the hands of so many learners also have a limited shelf life due to general wear and tear.
My students have really become leaders of their own learning and are advocating for new books in the classroom.
They not only want to see themselves represented in the books through mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors, but they also want to see more topics that they actually care about and that match current culture.
I am requesting a variety of fiction and nonfictions texts from volcanos to Pokemon to match the current interests of the students in my classroom. I am hoping that with this selection of texts not only will students feel empowered, but it will increase their reading stamina. I have also included a few more titles such as Shirley Chisholm is a Verb, and Not So Different: What You Really Want to Ask About Having a Disability to diversity the types of books in our library. As someone who loves books, help me to continue fostering that same love of reading in my students by getting them some oh so sweet books.
