To see or not to see; what is in the bottle? I teach 7th grade ecology in a Maine community that is bordered by a river or immense history in shaping the community. There are nearby lakes and streams for possible exploration by my class.
I did not receive any funds this year in which to buy science supplies, however we have a state funded laptop project. The laptops can be a resource of virtual labs and used as well as a tool for exploration,
With a digital camera microscope the students can do projects using the different samples of water captured in their water bottles and explore what is them, capturing photos, adding their own verbal comments and making small videos about their small bottle ecosystems. Photos can be submitted to websites to identify microscopic creatures.
You will make it possible for my students to use their laptop as a scientific tool and piece of equipment rather than just a research device or word processor. They will also learn skills of communication when they share their findings with the class using the presentation software on the laptop.
