My Students
I work at a Title I school, filled with culturally diverse learners. In my classroom, you will find Asian, African-American and Hispanic students with unique personalities and various learning styles and levels. Many of my students struggle with reading and math.
My students are able to receive a free breakfast and lunch regardless of income; many of them also receive free backpacks filled with foods to take home on the weekends, as well as supplies for school.
The children travel from a variety of neighborhoods to get to school daily with some families walking as far as 30 minutes just to bring their children to school. Many of them don't have much, but they do have a passion for learning.
My Project
Scholastic News Magazines provide an opportunity for students to learn about the world around them in an engaging manner! My students LOVE to read different types of books and are very excited when magazines are used in the classroom.
Scholastic News Magazines will be a new adventure for my students as they are learning to read and discovering the world around them!
The magazines will engage my students and serve as another resources for building reading success! My students will enjoy the brightly colored pictures, as well as, have the opportunity to explore text features in Scholastic Magazines. The magazines will help expand my students' vocabulary and build their background knowledge while targeting Kindergarten standards and essential reading skills. The magazines integrate math, science, and social studies in a way that excites the students' interests and makes reading fun! The magazines will be sent home so that the parents and child can talk about what they read in class each day.
