Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I am very fortunate to teach a class of 21 amazing students in a combo 2nd and 3rd grade. Our students attend an inner-city, Title I, French dual language school. They come from a variety of beautiful ethnic backgrounds and bring much of their culture with them. Many of them also come from homes with limited resources.
Our students are unique because they come from bilingual homes and are currently learning a third language.
They spend half of their instructional day learning in English and the other half learning in French.
We have entirely designed the curriculum around a project based learning approach, mainly focusing on Sciences (in both languages), hoping to arouse students' curiosity and interest for the world around them.
My Project
Understanding fractions can be very tricky for young students when it is first introduced to them. Yet, it is essential for their long-term achievements in math.
This project will provide students in my 3rd Grade class with math manipulatives to visualize what fractions are and better understand this concept through the purchase of individual rainbow fraction tiles for each of them.
Then, the funding of this project will also allow to purchase a fun classroom game to keep students learning fractions all together, in a fun, interactive and cooperative way while reinforcing those new math skills.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
