This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Inquisitive minds, warm hearts, helpful hands, and sponges for brains. These are just some of the ways you could describe the students that walk through our classroom doors each day.
Our students, with limited English skills, live in a high-poverty, big-city community where the goal is to help them blossom into productive learners and speakers.
Their willingness to work hard and achieve is evident in all that they do. They may come from homes where paying the rent and buying food is the priority. Therefore, it is so important for us to support them in as many ways as we can to give them every chance to succeed.
My Project
By having a subscription to Time for Kids, the students will be more informed about what is going on in the world while improving their literacy. They will learn about a great variety of things that are happening all over the world.
They will find out what life is like outside of their immediate neighborhood which, right now, is the center of their universe.
As nine and ten year old immigrants their knowledge of the world is somewhat limited to the little they know about their new home and what little they remember of their old home.
They will become better informed people and citizens by reading about things that happen in the Phillipines or Sumatra or California. What a great educational tool.
