I teach juniors and seniors at a careers-centered public school. Each year, my English 4 Honors students are required to read either two novels by one author or six plays by a playwright.
My school currently doesn’t have a library. Consequently, the only books my students have easy access to are the ones in my classroom. Unfortunately, I don’t have all of the books the students need to complete this assignment.
For the past two years, my female students have really enjoyed Latino authors such as Isabel Allende and Julia Alvarez. These authors are considered to have “literary merit,” which makes them appropriate for my Advanced Placement Literature and Composition students.
If you fund my grant, you will ensure my students have the “good books” to read, critique, and review.
