This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from all over the world. They speak different languages, have distinct cultures, diverse needs, and dreams. Most live in the Tenderloin Neighborhood and walk to school through one of the most impoverished communities in San Francisco. Despite all of the challenges they face on a daily basis they all share the same desire to learn. They are resilient and passionate about learning.

This passion inspires me daily and is why I seek resources for them.

Their families are supportive but struggling to live in an expensive city in California, yet I am consistently amazed by the resiliency of these families in their efforts to educate their children. They cannot however, offer the same support that other schools experience. My students deserve to have access to the same the learning tools and classroom staples that are commonplace in other, higher-income neighborhoods and schools.

My Project

Fifth graders are so thrilled to be back to school in person. However, with our protective masks, we can't hear each other. "huh?" and "What?" and "Can you say that again?" are extremely common.

In a classroom with more than 75% English Language Learners, it is so important that students can hear each other clearly.

I am requesting two fun microphones which will allow us to have fun. What's more fun than tossing a ball across the classroom as we share our thinking, contribute to classroom conversations, and demonstrate our learning.

The muffled voices not only hinder our classroom learning, they make it challenging to make connections with each other. This microphone will allow us to learn more and connect better with each other, make new friends and create a productive and supportive classroom community.
