At the end of every two week cycle, my students hand in the work they've done on their independent reading book and choose another book to read. All too often, there is a series that has a new book, and we don't have the book in our library yet.
These eighth graders are super readers.
They finish their books before the two-week cycle is complete, and they are eager to read more. In our diverse public school in Brooklyn, NY we have all types of readers with varied interests. From science fiction to dystopian to realistic fiction, one thing is certain--they want to keep reading no matter what the genre.
My Project
With the books I'm requesting, my students will be able to continue their favorite series or begin a new one without getting to the end of one novel and not having the next. Often, series keep them reading, and not having the next book is a real bummer. The Hunger Games will be followed up with a new copy of Catching Fire, The Raven Boys series will be complete, and In the After will be followed by In the End.
Your donation will help foster my students' love of reading and help complete some of the series in our classroom library.
There is nothing more satisfying than getting to the end of a series. My students are often proud of themselves for accomplishing this and eager to keep on reading.
