My students need ink for our printer to create visually stunning learning aids.

My Students
I am a 2nd grade Special Education Teacher in Brooklyn, NY. My school is an Early Childhood Center that ranges from Pre-K to Grade 2. We are a Title I school with a large population of English Language Learners. The staff at our school pride ourselves on creating a love of learning in young children so they may carry it with them throughout their lives.
The students in my class have been diagnosed with disabilities such as speech and language disorders, learning disabilities, and delays in motor skills.
They have several different learning styles and it is often a challenge to meet the specific needs of each and every child.
My Project
While their disabilities may be different, these students often benefit from new materials presented visually. Research in both educational theory and cognitive psychology tells us that visual learning is among the very best methods for teaching students of all ages how to think and learn. We love to print images to help students gain a deeper understanding of new material.
While we have a printer in our classroom, we sadly haven't received funding to buy new ink.
We have been completing a thematic unit on New York City. We studied several landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, Ellis Island, and Central Park. Students then created posters about their favorite landmarks. Each group searched the Internet for photos of the landmark to aid them in adding detail and remind them of what they learned. I printed the photos at home and distributed them to the class. These photos were great visual aids to the students while completing their project. The class then pasted the photos onto their posters to make informative masterpieces! They were so proud of their work, and it was all sparked by pictures of New York landmarks. More ink for our classroom printer would allow for seamless lessons that include technology and visual aids. Students can search the Internet for any photos or graphics that will help them with projects and print them right from our classroom!
More ink would allow children to become facilitators in their own learning by printing photos and graphics that will increase their own understanding of the topic. They can the use what they printed to create stunning visual learning aids.
We believe children gain the most knowledge and increase understanding when they are actively engaged in learning. Please support me in creating these opportunities for my special education students.
