My students need 22 copies of the Scholastic Children's Dictionary and 12 copies of the Scholastic Children's Thesaurus.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kertesz's classroom raised $690
This project is fully funded
Hello! I am a fourth grade teacher at an urban public elementary school in New York. All 22 of my students receive free lunch.
Can you believe that many fourth grade students don't know how to use a dictionary? Additionally, many don't even know what a thesaurus is. Ask them about how to play the latest video game and they can talk to you about it for hours. Ask them how to use a dictionary or a thesaurus and you hear silence.
The dictionaries in my classroom are falling apart and the absence of any thesaurus' makes it impossible to enhance students' vocabulary. I believe that building a student's vocabulary is an essential part of any educational experience.
Having dictionaries and thesaurus' in the classroom will provide new and exciting means of self-discovery. For example, when students' are given time for word games like Scrabble, the dictionaries and thesaurus' will be invaluable.
With your help, my students will no longer have to ask questions such as, "What does... mean?" They will know where, and how to learn this information.
