This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 2nd grade in a Title I school. We are in a high-need area with over 85% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunch. The recent budget cuts have been devastating and extra funding for resources are extremely difficult to come by.

Our families simply do not have the money to help pay for supplemental materials for their children.

In this day and age our children need as much of a variety of educational materials as we can provide for them. Unfortunately the schools can only afford to provide textbooks, paper, and pencils, items that, while extremely necessary, are simply not enough.

My Project

We have adopted a new math program this year that we are very excited about. After only 2 months of using this program we can see we made the right choice. Our previous math program has left major gaps in our students' basic math skills. Something as basic as learning/memorizing addition and subtraction facts was skipped in the 1st grade curriculum. The new program focuses on addition facts in 1st grade and subtraction facts in 2nd grade. While we are working on these facts in class my students need to be able to continue practicing these facts at home. Having flash cards will allow them to continue memorizing their facts even when I am not able to quiz them at school.

Your donation will ensure that every second grader gets every opportunity possible to learn and memorize the basic subtraction facts that will help them on all of their future math endeavors.
