This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Despite living in the city's second densest neighborhood, my students come to school with smiles on their faces ready to get down to the business of creating, reading, writing, and problem solving.
My students are eager to learn and motivated to make the world a better place.
They are truly a special group that work collaboratively and independently to meet their academic and personal goals. They aren't scared of challenges and they know the meaning of "productive struggle." Watch out world!
My Project
Despite being one of the most difficult subjects to teach, I LOVE teaching writing! My first graders are fantastic writers with so much to say. They especially like our Opinion Writing Unit and boy do they have opinions about everything!
I have found that the key to helping my students improve their writing is studying other authors and using those books as "Mentor Texts".
The books that I am requesting are all amazing examples of opinion writing! I will be able to share them with my students so that we can study all the ways these authors express and support their opinions. My students will then feel inspired to use these same techniques and ideas in their own writing.
Imitation is the best form of flattery and I have found this to be true in writing instruction too! Please help provide a new "Mentor Text" library for my little writers.
