My students need 4 weather stations, 3 weather ball games, 3 interactive weather maps, a cloud-forming apparatus, a psychrometer, a Galileo thermometer and an anemometer.
Are you as smart as a fifth grader? How much do you know about weather? Can you describe how air pressure can be affected on hot summer days? My fifth grade students need to know this and a lot more to pass the end-of-grade science test.
I teach in a small community school.
It is in a low income rural area. Our 5th grade class has 50 students who are very eager to learn and benefit from hands-on activities. I love science and I want my students to be excited and motivated to learn about science.
My Project
In order to motivate my students and help them understand weather, I need instruments and tools for hands-on learning. The interactive maps will be used year round to predict and chart the weather. Tools such as a thermometer, an anemometer, a barometer and a psychrometer need to be available for students to touch and use. Of course, my students will love reviewing for the test with a game of weather ball!
With your help, I can give my students a better understanding of the weather around us and help them excel on their science test.
How do you describe the air pressure on a hot day? The air expands and becomes less dense, creating areas of low pressure. Now you can be as smart as a fifth grader!
