Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten teacher in an inner city school. They are predominantly second language learners. We are a Title 1 school, in which we get state funds to support students learning in low income neighborhoods. These funds are not enough to accommodate the number of classrooms and students we have. In our school community, many of our students have parents with little to no education and or significantly low paying jobs. This sometimes becomes an obstacle to provide their children with the educational support needed and every day experiences to broaded language and knowledge.

These students love to be challenged and are hungry for learning.

They work hard and always try their best to learn. They don't let life's obstacles hold them back.

My Project

These learning tools will be an additional intervention. They will be used in centers and in small groups. The magnetic boards and alphabet printing practice cards will allow students to practice letter formation. The letter tiles will give students practice of letter identification as well as word formation. The alphabet picture cards will help students with matching beginning sounds to pictures. The family board games will allow family involvement(home-school connection). Alphabet Bingo board game is a fun way to learn and recognize letters and their sounds.

These will explicitly reinforce letter identification, letter sounds, phonemic awareness, handwriting and CVC words.
