My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, they always come excited to learn something new.

Our school is constantly trying to support our families with food, clothing, and supplies. Some of our parents are working 2-3 jobs just to get by and it is hard to ask for additional school supplies on top on it. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch everyday. Most of my class gets to take home a backpack of food once of week provided by our school. We really try to help out our families!

My Project

Parent participation is always something a teacher focuses on and this program looks like it really could help with helping kids want to do their homework and is geared to help the student teach what they’ve learned.

The Family Engagement Innovators Program from PowerMyLearning is focused on Family Playlists - interactive homework assignments where students complete a set of digital activities in school and then "teach" what they learned to a family member using a fun, hands-on activity at home.

The program also includes best-in-class PD on strategies for seamlessly engaging families in ways that drive student mastery and social-emotional learning.
