My students need 9 pre-reading activities, such as the Sound Switch Learning Center, the Alphabet Mystery Box and other phonemic awareness and alphabet activities.
What did you hear? It seems like a simple question but many of my students don't know how to listen and isolate sounds. Without these skills learning to read is an uphill battle.
Our school is a high poverty school in MD and our students are struggling on their state assessments.
My students work hard and love to learn but they are playing catch-up from the first day of school. My students have learned to love books and writing but before they can read and write for themselves, they need to develop their language skills.
My Project
I sorted through hundreds of items with only one thought in my mind, which of these will really help my students? I found some excellent activities and learning centers that build language and alphabet knowledge. By building language skills and alphabet knowledge, I am giving my students the extra push they need to be able to read. These games and activities are an excellent way to help my students because they are engaging, target the necessary skills and most importantly they are fun!.
Your donations can make a big difference in the lives of these children.
They are only in Kindergarten but success in Kindergarten leads to success in the future. By donating, you are giving these children a chance to truly shine and to become the amazing readers I know they can be.
